Delta changes the way its users experience wood: rigid forms become flexible and reconfigurable surfaces, providing kinetic and tactile interactions. A technical fabrication process combines precise geometric shapes and profiles with the natural beauty and live edges of sectioned trees. The resulting objects can function as table runners, tapestries, or rugs. To fabricate this piece I constructed a jig using pegboard to provide registration points for a custom router sled. I then used a handheld router to create surface profiles in veneers cut from a slab of dark walnut. These veneers were laminated to a fabric backing to create the finished object.
